Running Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Mizuno Wave Rider 22 Review

Those afflicted with plantar fasciitis surely aren’t even thinking about the idea of going for a nice long run. Plantar pain is one of the most common forms of heel pain, and it is also quite common among those in the running community.

Many people who suffer from plantar fasciitis are more than aware that the center of heel pain comes from the time immediately after waking up. However, some of the most pinpoint pains can come both during and after a run. Not using the right footwear will cause you to not have the heel support and arch support needed, and will do nothing but worsen the associated pain.

Plantar fasciitis treatment often involves a rigorous stretching routine. However, one of the easiest ways to calm the pains associated with plantar fasciitis is wearing shoes that properly support the arch and heel.

The Mizuno Wave Rider is one of the highest-selling running shoes on the market, plantar fasciitis focused or not. They are a wonderful example of a well-made running shoe that works great to absolve pain associated with plantar fasciitis.

About the Mizuno Wave Rider

Plantar fasciitis in no way should cause problems when you are headed off for a run. The Mizuno Wave Rider does a wonderful job in alleviating plantar fasciitis pains, and are developed for both men and women. These shoes assist greatly with both heel and arch support, providing extensive relief to those afflicted with both flat footedness and plantar fasciitis. Mizuno’s brand is known for ample stability, light shoe weights, and low profiles.

The Wave Rider comes with U4iC boards, and their patented double fan wave technology. This assists in the absorption of shock that the feet and legs experience repetitively when on a run. They provide plenty of durability without the burden of added shoe weight. Additionally, this extra shock absorption provided some of the fastest relief from plantar fasciitis of any of the shoes we tested.

The Mizuno Wave Rider boasts 30 percent less weight than any other shoe on our list. The technologies found in the Mizuno brand provide more cushion, reducing the wear on your feet, extending running longevity. The insoles can be removed on these shoes as well, allowing users to insert their own orthotics as needed.

Advantages and Disadvantages

You are never going to find the perfect shoe for plantar fasciitis. Running shoes are no exception, regardless of the miles you plan to put on them, and regardless of their brand recognition. This is the case for the Mizuno Wave River, too. Here are some of the pros and cons we found when we were testing and researching these running shoes.

Advantages of the Mizuno Wave Rider

  • These shoes provided the strongest shock absorption effects of any of the running shoes that we tested. Those with plantar fasciitis issues, as well as those with existing heel, foot and joint-related problems, have experienced pain elimination altogether when out on runs with the Wave Rider.’
  • The Mizuno Wave Rider is developed from high quality materials, and built with meticulous construction. As such, these shoes have a greater longevity than most on our list.

Disadvantages of the Mizuno Wave Rider

  • These running shoes don’t have the level of arch support that we experienced with most of the other shoes on our list. This is a crucial feature to many with plantar fasciitis, so one might want to factor this in when looking at the Wave Rider.
  • Some have experienced a narrow fit, even in some of the widest sizes. A few have even noted that there were next to no differences in the wide shoe versus the medium width shoe.

The Mizuno Wave Rider 22 is included in our comprehensive guide to the best running shoes for plantar fasciitis.
