Water Shoes

Adidas Terrex ClimaCool Boat Water Shoe Review

As far as looks go, the Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool tops our list of tested water shoes. These are amazingly slick shoes that in no way look like water shoes. With their speedy drying time, the Climacool is an ideal water shoe for beach-related activities, fishing, kayaking and more.

As we discovered after the testing was over, these shoes also work great for outdoor tasks when grass is wet, such as mowing the lawn or pulling weeds.

The Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe features speedy-drying Climacool technology, while also providing extensive cooling of the feet. This ensures that your feet will remain comfortable throughout the day. The shoes are very solid, and are the closest to looking like standard sneakers of all the water shoes that we tested. When all is said and done, these water shoes are the ones that we choose the most often when heading to the beach or pulling out the kayak.

Initial Thoughts on Unboxing

Wow. That was the first thing that came out of our mouths after pulling the Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe out of the Adidas shoebox. At first we were concerned that we didn’t pick up water shoes, and instead had accidentally received sneakers. But when we picked them up, we realized that it was actually a high-quality pair of water shoes.

Putting Them Through Their Paces

We spent extensive time testing the Adidas shoes in the elements at Little Talbot Island State Park in Jacksonville, Florida. Our tests included:

  • An ocean test: Sugar sand, waves, and hard packed sand.
  • A river test: Rocky creek beds, sandy shorelines, flowing water.
  • A hiking test: Over pine needles, sand, puddles, and standard trail surfaces.

Here is how they fared.

The Ocean Test

These shoes performed impressively well in the ocean, sugar sand, hard packed sand, and across shells. While we didn’t notice this in our initial testing, in follow up experiences at the same beach, we found that they got sugar sand in them very easily, which led to us needing to dump them out if we weren’t planning on getting in the ocean, or when going straight from the sand to a car or on a walk.

The River Test

The Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe did great in the river test, navigating the moving waters of Simpson Creek with ease. However, we found that the outsoles, while providing some of the best water-dispelling, were not very strong in grip compared to alternatives, such as Speedo or the Adidas Jawpaw.

The Hiking Test

The thinner outsoles of these shoes proved to be a bit inconvenient when we began hiking across some of the more brush-covered sections of the trails. We could definitely feel rocks and sticks when we were stepping on them. However, on the beach, in the ocean, and in the river, we were overall quite impressed.

Advantages and Disadvantages

There are many incredible things to mention about the Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe, including EVA tongues and heel inserts conforming to the shape of the foot, as well as non-marking rubber soles and extensive drainage capacity in the outsoles. Regardless of this though, there are always going to be pros and cons of any of the shoes that we test.

Below are a few advantages and disadvantages that we discovered with the Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe.

Advantages of the Adidas Terrex CC Boat Water Shoe

  • We were very impressed with the material quality found in this water shoe when compared to the price point. Typically, you get what you pay for, but in this case, we can honestly say that you get far more than the price tag.
  • For water shoes, these are very versatile, and remain comfortable regardless of wet or dry conditions. However, speaking of wet conditions, these were also some of the fastest draining and drying shoes in our testing processes.
  • Adidas’ Climacool technologies provide an open mesh upper with advanced breathability features, making them extremely lightweight. As such, they were great for travel, and carried well in a backpack.
  • The Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe is developed with a flexible and stretchable heel. This makes it a great fit for any foot, even those dealing with plantar fasciitis.

Disadvantages of the Adidas Terrex CC Boat Water Shoe

  • We discovered that the outsoles of these water shoes have a tendency to slip on slicker, wetter surfaces.
  • While the shoes performed great in both wet and dry conditions, and did alright across the slippery river bed, thy were not quite as comfortable in the hiking part of our testing processes.

Our Final Thoughts

Much like the other Adidas option in our water shoe testing, the Adidas Outdoor Terrex Climacool Boat Water Shoe was an impressive, very affordable, and all around incredibly solid option.

For those who happen to be looking for a shoe for activities where they aren’t going to be trudging through the woods (so beach time, boating, fishing, kayaking, jet skiing and more), these water shoes are a great option. They were some of the strongest water shoes we tested overall, and are our go-to water shoe after the final testing completed.
