Nike is a multinational company that manufactures athletic footwear and apparel. The company grew rapidly to become one of the world’s most familiar brands during the 1980s and 1990s with hugely successful marketing campaigns. Nike were successful in establishing their logo to embody not just sports culture, but also street culture. Once of Nike’s most successful products was the Nike Air Max athletic footwear, that had a air cushion built into the sole.
The name Nike is taken from Greek Mythology and is the name of the winged goddess of victory. The swoosh (or tick) logo was created by Caroline Davidson in 1971, and is supposedly meant to represent the wing of the Greek goddess Nike. A student at the time, she was paid a mere $35 for her design.
